It is apparent that many states are fed up with the rising trend in juvenile and gang related violence, and as a result, have established various programs and enacted laws that move away from the rehabilitative era that was developed in the 's and 's and more towards a punitive system. Throughout this essay two community-based programs and their effectiveness in combating juvenile delinquency are discussed and some of the causes of juvenile delinquent behavior are analyzed.
The Boys and Girls Club of America is one of the many effective community programs, creating a dent in juvenile delinquency nationwide. The benefits of this program go beyond the prevention of juvenile delinquency but also include interaction with healthy role models and the positive adult involvement afforded to the children and teens.
