To do this, you need to have a smart TV and a smartphone that support Miracast. This technology uses Wi-Fi Direct to stream content and is great for use in short distances such as in a living room. Miracast also allows you to duplicate your smartphone screen on to your smart TV.
This means, you can play movies, music and also play games and use apps on the large screen. Can I connect my Onn TV. It does not have wifi. My phone has wifi hotspot. DLNA comparable. My phone is a J7prime Samsung. No one seems to be able to help me. Thankyou Very Much. You also need to install a DLNA client on your phone. Share This Post. Swipe the notification panel down, and tap Miracast to enable.
While mirroring, Mobile Hotspot cannot be used simultaneously. Media server is now activated and ready to share content. Tap Allowed devices to show nearby devices accessible to your device.
Tap Not-allowed devices to show nearby devices that are not accessible to your device. You can browse the content library. Ensure that your device and nearby devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Make sure DLNA feature on the nearby device is turned on. Nero and WMP aren't very good imo. You can get apps like Serviio which are free, easy to setup and just work.
You can also get PMS free and Mezzmo pay for which are good. Thanks NX3. I will definitely have a look at Serviio and the others. Another option that may be easier is attaching a hard drive to the USB port - do you know whether TV's can take unpowered USB hard drives or whether it has to be powered?
Or is it TV specific? Thanks again for any help. Last edited: Feb 14, You can plug in a usb hard drive, some large capacity 2. Other people with various mixes of makes and models report problems. My entire media collection is able to be played via the usb port when I connect the HDD its contained on, so does this mean if I network the TV up via ethernet using powerline adaptors the TV will still be able to playback everything over DLNA that it can through the USB media player? Or does DLNA have its own set of compliant file formats that it can stream? Will be networking the TV up to PC via ethernet homeplugs if that makes any difference. Some brands limit what can be played over a network connection v USB, you'd have to check the manual for your set.
Homeplugs, make sure you get mpbs or faster to make sure you don't run into lack of bandwidth issues. Regarding the homeplugs, I was only ever going to consider mpbs anyway. On that subject, I am planning to have one homeplug at the router, one at the TV and one upstairs in the bedroom. However I am planning to get a single port one for the bed room, split it using a gigabit network switch so I can use my PC, PS3 and my freesatHD box through that single homeplug.
Do you see any problems with using a switch coming off of a single port homeplug? As you have mentioned this is not a particularly good piece of software and you have made other recommendations.
